MURRAY - Economic struggles could be the reason for more cloth and less skin in young women's fashion lately.

With fewer people buying clothes, retailers are searching for a wider demographic, and that means appealing to the silent, more modest minority. But is anyone noticing?

"No, not really. It's just the same thing," one shopper told us.

But another said, "It seems like just like 10 years ago there was nothing [modest] that you could find. There's a lot more now."

Since consumers are cutting back on the bling, retailers are being forced to get on board as well.

University of Utah Economist Jim Wood said, "In order to stay in business, they're gonna have to change. Those that can't will probably face really difficult times."

Wood says it's a lot harder for companies to stick to a niche when no one is buying.
