Press ReleaseWEST VALLEY CITY -- In mid-March UDOT will begin implementing reversible lanes to manage commuting traffic on 3500 South between Bangerter Highway and 2700 West in West Valley City. The reversible lanes, along with reduced speed, will allow UDOT to provide a safer corridor for road users and construction workers.

Reversible lanes will provide two travel lanes eastbound with one lane westbound from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. and two lanes westbound with one lane eastbound from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. The speed limit in the work zone has been reduced to 35 mph. All business accesses will remain open during construction and motorists can also access businesses via 3100 South or Lancer Way (3650 South).
Crews began utility work in fall 2008 and are now starting the reconstruction phase of the project. 3500 South will be widened to three general purpose travel lanes in each direction. In addition, UDOT will add two dedicated lanes in the center median for Utah Transit Authority's (UTA) first Bus-Rapid-Transit line.

"We are partnering with UTA and West Valley City to provide a wider road and more travel options," said UDOT project manager Ben Huot.
New curb, gutter and sidewalks will also be added as part of the project. Completion is scheduled for summer 2010.
