(KSL News) A man under investigation for ties to al Qaida appeared in a Salt Lake court for fraud.

Alaa "Alex" Ramadan pleaded guilty to numerous violations stemming from four criminal indictments.

He and his uncle, Sharif Omar, and three others were accused of defrauding Utah banks of hundreds of thousands of dollars through bad mortgages and car loans.

Investigators are trying to determine if any of the money from the Utah fraud activity was used to finance terrorism.
