SALT LAKE CITY -- The sky is the limit when it comes to asking for a share of the recently approved federal stimulus package. Even tiny towns are coming up with nine-digit requests.
Salem in Utah County wants $345 million to create 2,500 jobs. That's half of Salem's population.
But city officials say it's not just for them. The Deseret News reports $300 million would be for two projects involving a regional waste water treatment facility. It would serve most of Utah County. City leaders say they just put their name on the project.
Other projects on Salem's list include road widening, a city-wide storm drain system, and a recreation complex.
Pleasant Grove also is lobbying for federal cash. It wants a new fire substation and wireless system for police and schools.
The Daily Herald reports other projects Pleasant Grove would like to fund with stimulus money include road improvements, a possible hydroelectric power generator out of Battle Creek Canyon, rejuvenation of downtown, parks and open space in the Grove area.
