This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

An ice dam is a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of a roof and prevents melting snow (water) from draining off the roof. The water that backs up behind the dam can leak into a home and cause damage to walls, ceilings, insulation and other areas. The dams also create hazards around the perimeter of the home.

After spending years as a general contractor, Michael Gurr regularly saw the problems caused by the formation of ice dams. He came up with the idea to create an energy-efficient roof deicing system and he formed Thermal Technologies to market and sell the product.

Thermal Technologies manufactures innovative, energy-efficient roof deicing systems, designed to eliminate ice and snow dams on someone's roof. By employing radiant technologies that use aluminum alloy as the primary heat conductor, Michael's system eliminates ice dams, icicles, leaks and shingle shift when electric heat cable, or hydronic tubing pass through the T-Panel or T-Zone systems.

The T-Panel System is designed for homeowners and small businesses. It melts up to 18 inches of roofline and is designed for roofs with smaller eaves. The T-Zone system is a modified heated roof designed for large commercial businesses, homes, hotels and lodges. It has been popular in the mountain regions at ski resorts and log homes.

Michael tells me his Bluffdale-based company has been warmly received since its launch four years ago. It is growing both statewide and nationally and is branching into Canada. In the next year, Michael hopes to see it double in size, especially as he continues to create original snow- and ice-removal products for other parts of the home and perhaps the driveway.

Thermal Technologies is distinguished by its product lines, designed to save consumers money in operating de-icing systems.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
