MOAB, Utah (AP) -- Arches National Park hopes to reopen the Delicate Arch trail by this weekend, one week after two dozen stranded hikers were rescued from the area during heavy rains.
Park officials hope to reopen the trail before Friday, said Paul Henderson, park spokesman.
Other roads, including one to the White Rim mountain biking area, likely won't be reopened until next week, he said.
"All of the roads that lead into Horseshoe Canyon -- which is a detached part of the park very famous for its rock art -- all of those roads are presently washed out," Henderson said.
Heavy rains began Friday and didn't stop until Monday, nearly tripling the 1.02 inches of rain the area typically receives in October.
Henderson said 20 adults and four children had to be rescued Friday after "a river of water" separated them from their cars on the way back from Delicate Arch. No serious injuries were reported.
