KSL Newsradio's Mary Richards reportingAn intersection near East High School will not get a traffic light, despite two accidents in the last year.

Utah Department of Transportation says the intersection at 700 South and 1300 East does not meet the criteria for a full traffic light, but they say they can install a pedestrian-activated flashing yellow light. Gerri Osman says that's not enough.

"You push that button and the yellow light starts flashing. I think a lot of children might be under that false sense of security where they think 'Oh, okay, the light's flashing, I'm okay. I can just start crossing the street,'" said Osman.

Osman's son Sebastian was hit and killed in February while crossing 1300 East. Students from four different schools use this intersection. UDOT will hold a public meeting about their findings tonight at Emerson Elementary School, at 1017 E Harrison Ave.
