SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Utah Supreme Court has heard arguments about whether environmental groups and others should have a chance to challenge a company's leases to operate on the shores of the Great Salt Lake.

Monday's hearing centered on plans by Great Salt Lake Minerals to expand its operations by 33,000 acres at the lake.

Joro Walker, an attorney representing 13 advocacy groups, says the public should be entitled to a hearing on specific projects like the company's.

David Reymann, representing the minerals company, says concerns are better raised during the planning process and not when the Utah Department of Natural Resources is deciding on specific leases.
