SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- An unlicensed Canadian naturopath accused of telling a breast cancer patient to NOT undergo chemotherapy has entered his plea.
Sixty-three-year-old David Eugene Pontius from British Columbia has pleaded no contest to two counts of attempted unprofessional conduct.
Authorities say Pontius was treating Diane Shepherd for six months before she died in October of 2004. Court documents say Pontius had told the woman her cancer was the result of gangrene and mercury poisoning from the fillings in her teeth.
His sentencing is set for December fifth. He faces up to two years in prison.
