SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Sandy officials are heading to the Lone Star State today to figure out how a soccer stadium can benefit city coffers.
The city's mayor and council members are going to Frisco, Texas --- the home of the newest Major League Soccer stadium. The 120-acre complex cost 80 (M)million dollars, while the city, county and school district contributed 55 (M)million of it.
Here in Sandy, the 42-acre stadium complex would cost 180 (M)million dollars. While, Salt Lake County and Sandy plan to give 55 (M)million in public subsidies.
Real officials want to begin construction this month on the complex, but say it can't until a contract is signed with the county. However, that can NOT happen until the county finishes it investigation into the team's finances. That investigation officially began today.
