SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A former Hill Air Force Base manager who prosecutors say built explosive devices that caused a bomb scare in Layton in 2007 has been sentenced to 24 months of probation.
Raymond Bradley Parr, of West Point, was convicted in September of possessing unregistered explosive devices.
Prosecutors, who sought a prison term, say Parr stored the devices negligently and shouldn't have made them. A shed where Parr stored the devices was burglarized and some were found at a car wash later, closing Layton's Main Street for a day. Other explosives linked to Parr were found behind a Roy convenience store.
U.S. District Judge Dale A. Kimball cited Parr's military and public service and lack of ill intent in handing down the light sentence Thursday.
