SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The State Board of Education is telling school districts around the state that it doesn't want them applying to shorten their school weeks unless there are extreme circumstances that warrant it.
The board has unanimously approved a statement warning school districts they should have a good reason for asking to change to a four-day school week.
It says it will only consider waiver requests in "extreme circumstances of distance, isolation and small school size."
Two charter schools and 14 school districts in that state are now on a four-day week.
State School Board member Denis Morrill says the board's statement is designed to save time and energy for districts that probably wouldn't receive a waiver.
