Salt Lake City's mayor wants a new public safety building, and he's hoping to convince voters to help pay for it this time around.

The same bond issue went before voters in 2007, but it lost by 263 votes. At the time, the amount of the bond was $192 million, but since that time, Mayor Ralph Becker tells KSL's "Doug Wright Show" the city has worked to streamline the project.

"We're coming forward with a complex or building that's gonna be co-located with other city facilities. We're looking at taking some of the things that were in the original bonding proposal and maybe sharing them with other cities," he said.

The mayor plans to put a new initiative on the ballot this fall. He says police and fire need a new facility badly.
