Rep. Jim Matheson says maybe the tough economy will encourage his colleagues to think twice about taking an automatic pay raise.

Matheson has repeatedly tried to get Congress to vote on whether to get a pay raise, instead of automatically getting one.

This year Congress's pay will jump up an extra $4,700 on Thursday. But Matheson says with the economy struggling, perhaps he can gain some momentum as congressmen might want to rethink taking more money while so many voters are struggling in a tough economy. Once again, Matheson says he won't take the yearly raise.

Most members of Congress currently make $169,000.
