Nationwide, shoppers hit the stores early Friday to return unwanted gifts and take advantage of drastic price cuts offered by retailers desperate to get rid of old merchandise and boost their less-than-cheery holiday sales.
Some people we talked to can't forget the worst gift.
A young married couple remembers a nightmare gift: a red fleece blanket with black stripes. "It was a regift, probably 10 times over," the woman said.
One woman blames her ex-husband for giving her a ruffly dress. "It was all gathers and ruffles. I looked like a two-ton Tessie in it," she said.
One man tossed out a tie. "(It was a) noxious color that just said get rid of it," he explained.
Two people mentioned socks. One pair was so ugly that it is now used to dry dishes.
