Gang members told police that they were at the Redwood Memorial Cemetery at 6500 South Redwood Road in West Jordan to mourn the loss of a gang member who died one year ago today.

Shots were fired at the cemetery. Investigators found between six and twelve shell casings at the scene. Residents heard the shots and called police around 2:30 or 3:00 this morning.

When police arrived, they initially took 14 men and women into custody. Eleven of them were given citations for being in the cemetery after 10 pm, and allowed to go home.

Police questioned the other three in connection with the guns found at the scene. They released two of them and arrested the third on warrants not connected to the incident.

Police recovered two handguns at the scene. They believe the shots may have been fired in the air, not at any particular target.
