(KSL News) A struggling economy has taken its toll on nearly everything this year, including blood donations.
Officials with ARUP Blood Services say donations are down this fall and winter since businesses that normally encourage donations are strapped.
"Businesses that normally hold blood drives are experiencing layoffs or telling us they can't afford to let employees donate during business hours anymore. Or they are canceling blood drives for the holidays and 2009 all together," ARUP Blood Services Vice President and Group Manager Karen Nielsen said in a news release.
ARUP Spokesman Lance Bandley joined us this morning to talk about it. Play the video to see the interview.
ARUP Blood Services is asking for the community to donate at one of their two donor centers:
- University of Utah Research Park
500 Chipeta Way (Building 580) - Murray
5201 South Green St. (just off of the I-15 freeway and 5300 South exit) - Hours: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday
