SALT LAKE CITY — After a mild winter in the west, Utah was called on to host the NCAA ski championships after "insufficient" snow at expected host Montana State.
Bozeman, Montana, was expected to serve as host but the lack of snow "presented challenges" for the various venues, leaving the NCAA to move the location of the ski championships. Montana State was last expected to host in 2020, but the NCAA was forced to cancel the season with the spread of COVID.
Utah last hosted the national ski championship in 2022, in which the team who the second of its three-peat run. Utah will also host the 2028 ski championship, which was previously scheduled.
The ski competition will take place from March 11-14, with the alpine competitions at the Spencer F. Eccles Olympic Mountain Center at the Utah Olympic Park in Park City, and the nordic competitions at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Midway.
The championships weekend will begin with giant slalom (March 11), followed by the 7.5K classic interval starts (March 12), slalom (March 13) and 20K freestyle mass starts (March 14).
Utah is the reigning national champion and has won four of the last five ski national championships, and six since the 2017 season. During that time, only Colorado and Denver have each won one national championship.
