LEEDS, Washington County — A pilot suffered critical injuries in a helicopter crash near Leeds on Monday.

Crews with Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue responded the incident in the Silver Reef area just after 1 p.m. They said the pilot and another passenger were on board at the time of the crash.

The pilot, an 85-year-old man, was transported to St. George Regional Medical Center in critical condition, but was said to be stable, said Washington County Sheriff's Sgt. Jacob Paul.

Another occupant, a 55-year-old woman, was evaluated on scene but declined further treatment.

"She did have some minor injuries and from what I understand, they self transported," Paul told KSL Tuesday.

Information about what led to the crash has not been released.

Paul said the Federal Aviation Administration was notified of the incident and the National Transportation Safety Board responded to investigate the crash.

No other information was available.
