LEEDS, Washington County — A semitruck driver was taken to a hospital with critical injuries after a rollover crash south of Leeds on Thursday, according to Utah Highway Patrol.

UHP Sgt. Mike Alexander said officers responded to a rollover on northbound I-15 at about 4:42 p.m. The driver was trapped inside the cab of the semi and had to be extricated, according to Hurricane Fire and Rescue, which also responded to the crash.

"Due to the prolonged extrication, Intermountain Life Flight was requested to assist with transporting the patient to St. George Regional Hospital," the department wrote in a news release Tuesday evening.

Alexander said the semi that was hauling dairy rolled, and it leaked into the dirt surrounding the roadway.

The crash temporarily closed the northbound lanes, but they have since reopened, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.

Fire crews also worked to contain a fuel leak from the semi and to address the dairy product spill.
