OGDEN — A 56-year-old man is facing kidnapping and sexual abuse charges in connection with a teen who police say the suspect met along a busy Ogden street last week.
Weber County prosecutors filed charges in 2nd District Court against Son Ngan Tran on Thursday. Aside from aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony, and forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony, Tran is charged with unlawful kissing of a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, misdemeanors.
According to charging papers, Tran encountered the 16-year-old victim along busy Wall Avenue. The varied offenses allegedly occurred Aug. 28-30.
"The victim described running away and laying in grass on Wall Avenue when the suspect, Son Tran (Son), drove by and asked him how old he was. The victim told him he was 16 years old, and then Son asked him if he needed a place to stay," read charging papers. "The victim accepted and was given a ride in Son's car to Son's home."
At Tran's Ogden home, the man, who said he was a retired chiropractor, allegedly provided the teen with alcohol and fondled and sexually assaulted him. "While committing forcible sexual abuse against the victim, Son refused to let the victim leave," read the charging papers.
Ogden police were dispatched to Tran's home on Aug. 30. Judge Matthew Hansen on Thursday ordered that Tran be held in jail without bail.
