HOLLADAY — Criminal charges were filed Monday against a man who allegedly shot another man in the leg from close range, causing the leg to fracture in four places.
Francisco Jesus Moreno, 38, was charged in 3rd District Court with shooting a gun and causing serious injury and drug possession with intent to distribute, first-degree felonies; aggravated assault resulting in serious injury and being a restricted person in possession of a gun, second-degree felonies; two counts of drug possession, a third-degree felony; and marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, class B misdemeanors.
On Aug. 24, Unified police responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment near 4900 S. Highland Dr. A woman told police that her boyfriend "was lying on the bed while she was folding laundry on the bed. (She) said that (Moreno) was standing near the doorway. (He) told (the boyfriend) to stand up, and when (he) stood up, (Moreno) shot him in the leg," according to charging documents.
The victim told police he "had never met the shooter before" and that Moreno "shot him from about 10 feet away," the charges state.
A police booking affidavit added that four people were in the bedroom at the time, and one woman "told the victim to stop talking to her like that after he made a rude comment to her. The victim asked something along the lines of, 'Well, who's going to stop me?' and made a rude comment toward (Moreno)," the affidavit states.
Moreno responded by telling the other man to stand up.
"The victim did, and 'Cisco' pulled a gun out of his waistband and shot the victim in his left leg," according to the affidavit.
After the victim was taken to a local hospital, it was determined that his femur was fractured in four places, charging documents state.
With the help of a screenshot from a doorbell camera, police said they identified Moreno as the gunman and located him on Thursday. He was in possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia and a gun at the time of his arrest, the charges state.
