PARK CITY — A man was arrested Sunday after police say he broke into the Park City Gun Club and fired shots before leading officers on a chase that ended in a crash and a standoff.

Abraham Hernandez Duron, 40, was booked into the Summit County Jail for investigation of 15 counts of illegal discharge of a firearm, aggravated assault targeting law enforcement, aggravated burglary, theft, two counts of failing to stop for police, being a restricted person in possession of a gun and criminal mischief.

Summit County sheriff's deputies responded to a burglary alarm about 5:30 a.m. Sunday at the Park City Gun Club, 4285 N. Forestdale Drive. "When initial deputies arrived, they were able to hear shots being fired inside the gun club," a police booking affidavit states.

While deputies and Park City police officers were positioning themselves outside the business, more shots were fired from inside the building.

"During this incident, the suspect discharged firearms toward officers and out of the building through the glass windows 15 times," the affidavit alleges. "Thirteen of the rounds exited the north window and two penetrated the north wall."

One deputy was struck in the hand by "an unknown object that came from the gun club," which was "possibly from a bullet ricochet or flying debris," the sheriff's office said.

Duron then exited the gun club and got into a Ford Econoline van and sped away. The ensuing police chase ended when Duron crashed near Trailside Bike Park, "by running into a basketball pole and getting stuck on it," according to the affidavit.

A SWAT team responded to the scene and contained Duron, who had a "rifle-style gun on his lap," police said. After a standoff that lasted about one hour and 20 minutes, Duron got out of his vehicle and, "after placing the rifle on the ground, complied with the directions of the SWAT team, and he was taken into custody safely."

Five guns allegedly stolen from the business were recovered from Duron's van.

Police said they did not fire any shots during the incident.
