PARK CITY — A man is in custody after allegedly opening fire from inside the Park City Gun Club early Sunday morning, then leading authorities on a vehicle pursuit that ended in a standoff near Trailside Bike Park, according to the Summit County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded around 5:30 a.m. to an alarm activation at the gun club on Forestdale Drive, the sheriff's office said in a statement posted on its Facebook page. Upon arrival, officers reported hearing gunfire from inside the building and witnessed shots being fired outward from the structure.
The suspect, described as a man in his 40s and a Utah resident, exited the building and fled the scene in a vehicle. Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the man fled, initiating a pursuit through the area, police said.
The chase ended when the suspect crashed near Trailside Bike Park. Police say he refused to comply with commands to surrender, prompting a standoff with the SWAT team that lasted approximately one hour and 20 minutes.
Authorities said the standoff concluded peacefully, with the man taken into custody without further incident.
No officers discharged their weapons during the incident. One Summit County deputy sustained minor injuries — possibly from a ricocheted bullet or flying debris — but no serious injuries were reported.
The man's identity and potential charges have not yet been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
