SALT LAKE CITY — Following up the popular "Welcome to Wrexham" series, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds hope to net another blockbuster goal with streaming audiences when new series and movies hit Disney+ and Hulu in August.
The duo first put their business acumen and soccer knowledge to the test when acquiring Welsh club Wrexham AFC in 2020 and documenting the ups and downs of the squad through four seasons of "Welcome to Wrexham" (available for streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.) Now, however, actress Eva Longoria has enlisted McElhenney and Reynolds to take on a new project: to "reignite the soul" of a historical soccer club south of the border, according to a Hulu press release.
The two-episode series premiere of FX's "Necaxa" premieres Aug. 8 on Hulu. The docuseries looks to follow the same format that made "Welcome to Wrexham" a success, with a Latin American twist. Among its producers is Longoria.
Other notable entries in August's streaming slate include all episodes of "Eyes of Wakanda" and the "Stand Up to Cancer" 2025 concert on Disney+.
