PETERSON, Morgan County — Troopers have identified a South Ogden man as the person killed in a motorcycle crash Friday on I-84 in Morgan County.

The crash occurred when Justin Smith, 62, who was eastbound on I-84 near Peterson, failed to negotiate a curve in the road.

"The road curves to the right, and the motorcycle drifted off to the left into the median where it hit the cable barrier," Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cam Roden said.

He added that a medical helicopter responded, but the driver was not transported and died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.

Roden said authorities were trying to determine why Smith went off the road.

Correction: A previous version incorrectly stated that UHP Lt. Cam Roden's rank is sergeant. He is a leuitenant.
