SALT LAKE CITY — A manhunt early Friday in Salt Lake City led to a crash and three people being taken to the hospital with varying degrees of injury.
Unified police detectives were searching for a 34-year-old man. The man may have recognized one of the police vehicles — though there was no indication a traffic stop was initiated — and took off from the area of 3900 S. State at a high rate of speed, Salt Lake police spokesman Brent Weisberg said.
Around 1:10 a.m., the driver eventually crashed into another vehicle at 2100 S. 300 East, where he fled the scene and ran into a neighborhood. The car that was hit had two occupants.
The driver, a 29-year-old man, was transported to the hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. A 26-year-old passenger, however, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
Multiple agencies — including K-9 teams and drone units — assisted in locating and arresting the suspect. He was taken to the hospital with injuries and will be booked into jail once he is medically cleared, Weisberg said.
