SOUTH SALT LAKE — South Salt Lake police were looking Wednesday for a gunman who shot another man on Tuesday night.

Just after 11:30 p.m., officers were called to the area of 2200 South and 400 East where they found a man in his mid-40s who suffered "a gunshot wound to a lower extremity," according to a statement from the department.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he is reported to be "stable," police said.

Detectives are looking for another man in his mid-40s who was last seen wearing a white shirt and black pants or shorts.

Details about what prompted the shooting were not immediately available, but police say "this appears to be an isolated incident stemming from an altercation between acquaintances. There is no known threat to the public at this time."
