MOAB — A Colorado man who died in a motorcycle crash near an entrance in Canyonlands National Park last week has been identified.

Park rangers identified the motorcyclist as Bruce Griffith, 71, from Copper Mountain, Colorado.

Emergency crews responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash along County Road 143 near the entrance to the park's Island in the Sky district shortly after 2 p.m. on Thursday, according to the San Juan County Sheriff's Office. Park rangers, along with sheriff's deputies, Utah Highway Patrol troopers and paramedics from neighboring areas all arrived to render aid, but Griffith died at the scene of the crash.

It's unclear what caused the crash, which park rangers and deputies are still investigating.

The San Juan County Sheriff's Office is also investigating a separate fatal crash that happened about an hour later on County Road 313 near the Lisbon Valley Mine. Deputies say a driver, whose name and age were not immediately released, died at the scene of the second crash, as well.
