OMAHA, Nebraska — Admit it, a chocolate mousse cake from Costco is delicious.

But eating the whole thing in one sitting would be a tall task even for the most competitive eater and is bound to put the consumer in a food coma. Even if that cake eater is an opossum.

Just ask the one recently treated by a Nebraska Wildlife Rehab rescue group.

On Feb. 10, an Omaha woman came home to find her tuxedo chocolate mousse cake that she purchased from Costco — or what little was left of it — on her back porch and a panting opossum lying on top of it.

The woman told CNN that her refrigerator was full that night, and in the winter it's easy to set food items on the back deck. That's when her son made the gorging discovery.

"I really thought he was messing with me, so I went over and I turned the light on, I opened the door, and I was like, 'Oh my,'" Kim Doggett said. "And then I was like, 'Oh, it ate the Costco cake.'"

Eating the entire cake likely saved the opossum's life, Nebraska Wildlife Rehab told CNN, because the bandit was caught in the act. The animal was treated at the Baldwin Wildlife Center & Hubbard Family Wildlife Hospital for dietary habits and unrelated lead toxicity.

After being admitted, the organization designed T-shirts with "Cake Bandit" on the front and the back, displaying the animal's rehab admission note: "Opossum was brought in due to having eaten an entire Costco chocolate cake. He was panting a lot, however mobile and alert."

The opossum was expected to make a full recovery.
