LINDON, Utah (AP) -- Ten months after an immigration raid, a Utah County company has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for knowingly hiring dozens of undocumented workers at its manufacturing plant.
Universal Industrial Sales Inc., which makes highway guard rails and sign structures, entered the plea Thursday in U.S. District Court as part of a plea agreement.
After the February raid, the Lindon company pleaded not guilty to 10 criminal counts of harboring illegal immigrants for commercial advantage.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul M. Warner sentenced the company to three years of probation and a $200,000 fine.
Universal's attorney, James D. Gilson, says the company is taking more aggressive steps to verify the accuracy of identification information submitted by new job applicants.
