EAGAN, Minn. — The owners of the Minnesota Vikings are committed to patience with J.J. McCarthy as the rookie quarterback develops. McCarthy was the 10th overall pick in the draft. He has been the clear backup in training camp to veteran Sam Darnold. Vikings owner Mark Wilf said waiting for progress with McCarthy is not a problem even while acknowledging the frustration the Vikings haven't won it all under his family's leadership. Wilf said he has confidence in coach Kevin O'Connell's quarterback expertise. He also said consideration of contract extensions for O'Connell and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah would wait until after the season.
