MILLCREEK — A Salt Lake man is facing more than a dozen charges accusing him of getting mad when he was kicked out of a party, then firing multiple rounds in the air to show his displeasure and later firing more rounds into the ground when his friends got mad at him.

Javier Martinez, 19, was charged Tuesday in 3rd District Court with two counts of shooting a gun causing injury, a second-degree felony; two counts of shooting in the direction of a person, a third-degree felony; and 10 counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm for shooting in the air, a class B misdemeanor.

The investigation began about 1:40 a.m. on May 19 when Unified police were called to a Millcreek residence on a report of shots being fired outside. Martinez was with a group of people at a party when they were kicked out for being disorderly, according to charging documents.

The group then drove to a high school parking lot in Salt Lake City where some people got into an argument with Martinez for using his gun, according to police. Two men then punched Martinez, "who pulled out his firearm and fired a few rounds at the ground. The bullet fragments hit (one teen boy) in his left foot and (a teen girl) in her neck and left hand, the charges say.

Two bullet holes were also found in the car that one person had driven, according to the charges.

A SWAT team went to Martinez's residence, where police say he was waiting to be arrested.
