MURRAY — A man wanted for investigation of attempted murder in Utah has been arrested in Colorado.
On Saturday, a teen boy was shot in a McDonald's parking lot, at 4452 S. Commerce Drive. Police said Monday the boy remains in extremely critical condition. His age has not been released.
Murray police learned three males were inside a car when the shooting occurred. After the shooting, 20-year-old Jhon Alvaro-Alarcon Paredes fled the area, police stated.
According to a statement from the Mesa County Colorado Sheriff's Office, officers were asked on Sunday to be on the lookout for Paredes, who was allegedly traveling toward Mesa County. Mesa County borders Utah's Grand County and includes I-70 through Grand Junction.
"Deputies and troopers from the Colorado State Patrol set up surveillance along the interstate, but further information indicated they likely missed the suspect due to a time delay. Deputies continued to search for the fugitive, focusing their efforts in the Fruita area based on information provided by the Murray, Utah, police department," according to a statement from the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.
After searching local businesses, hotels and gas stations, a deputy spotted a vehicle believed to belong to Paredes at a gas station in Fruita.
"After contacting several people associated with the vehicle, one of the deputies on scene noticed an adult male standing off to the side observing their contact. The deputy quickly identified the male as the wanted fugitive," the sheriff's office stated.
Paredes was then taken into custody and is now awaiting extradition back to Utah.
