SALT LAKE CITY — Election season is kicking into full gear, and the Utah Debate Commission on Monday announced its slate of statewide and congressional debates for Utah candidates later this year.
The series of debates will begin with gubernatorial candidates at Salt Lake Community College on Sept. 23 and conclude with a debate for Utah's 4th Congressional District at the University of Utah on Oct. 24.
"Robust public debates are essential to the democratic process, and the Utah Debate Commission looks forward to all qualified candidates participating in another compelling and widely viewed public debate season this fall," said Ed Allen, co-chairman of the commission, in a news release.
"We deeply appreciate appreciate our media partners and extend our profound gratitude for their generosity in bringing these debates to the public," added co-chairwoman Becky Edwards. "Their steadfast commitment to providing prime airtime epitomizes their enduring dedication to fostering informed civic discourse."
Debates will be broadcast and livestreamed by KSL and other media outlets. Candidates must earn at least 10% support in polls conducted by the commission in order to participate. The general election is Nov. 5.
