OREM — Challengers have come and gone over the past four years of the emerging 4A classification of girls wrestling, which was sometimes wedged with a handful of teams from other classifications before the smaller divisions were pulled apart in 2024.
Through the changes, one team always stood out.
Brooke Keller won her second state title with a 58-second pin at 190 pounds, and nine wrestlers placed in the top-four as Mountain Crest pulled away for its fourth straight 4A championship Thursday at the UCCU Center.
"My coach always says, it's attitude and effort. That's exactly what I did," said Keller, who was named most outstanding wrestler in the upper weights. "It all just comes with a little bit of motivation, and the grit of my team. The coaches push us to try to give it our all, but it's us that really drives it. I know Mountain Crest is gritty, and we're ready to work. That's why I love my team."
The Mustangs took a monstrous leader over Bear River, 260-224 ahead of the championship round, thanks in large part to third-place finishes from Hannah Sanders (100), Amelia Choate (105), Madeline Woolstenhulme (135) and Gracie Howard (170) to add to a runner-up finish by Addilyn Baxter (100).
Uintah freshman Sadie Rhoades capped off an undefeated season at 46-0 with a 3:55 pin over Jordan's Abbey West in the 105-pound championship match.
Uintah's Chanley Green pinned Crimson Cliffs Quinci Smith in the third period to clinch the senior's third state title at 115 pounds.
Murray's Cheyenne Ruiz dispatched Stansbury's Angie Aguilar in the second round to claim her fourth state championship.

5A Girls wrestling
It was only a matter of time before Wasatch, with its history of wrestling since the days of the Sanderson family and before, found its second-year girls program standing on top of the program.
That time just happened to come Thursday.
Marabelle Brown (115), Pallas Anderson (120) and Corinne Letchford (145) each finished second, and the Wasps used their depth to overcome the 5A field en route to 249.5 points and the first girls wrestling title to pair with 23 on the boys' side.
The Wasps had all-but wrapped up the program's first state title with 249.5 points before the championship finals opened Thursday afternoon at the UCCU Center. That was in large part due to third-place finishes by Maisey Blaser (105), Amberly Howe (130), Regan Heywood (135), Tyler Richter (155) led a strong push from the consolation bracket before Wasatch's trio of state finalists stepped on the mat.
Salem Hills held off Cedar Valley by eight points for second place, followed by Northridge (170) and Hillcrest (143.5) to round out the top five.
