SALT LAKE CITY — Two crashes involving semitrucks — one heading north and the other south — in the same area has resulted in at least one injury and backed up traffic in both directions.
The crashes happened just after 11:30 a.m. on I-215 near 1000 North. A semi is on its side in the northbound lanes near 1000 North, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. A second semi pulling a full-sized box trailer is jackknifed in the southbound lanes near 1100 North. It was not immediately known if the semi on its side was carrying anything.
The southbound crash also involved two other vehicles. A woman in one of those cars was taken to a local hospital in serious to critical condition, according to the highway patrol.
What caused the crashes was still being investigated. Troopers suspect that because both incidents happened about the same time in the same area that they are related, but did not yet have further details as to what may have happened.
One lane of traffic was open in both directions for quite some time, but all lanes have since reopened.
