SALT LAKE CITY — 2023 may go down as a year of sport in Utah.

Salt Lake City hosted the NBA All-Star Game before it entered the race for a Major League Baseball expansion team, generated National Hockey League rumors and ended the year as the "preferred host" for the 2034 Winter Olympics, just to name a few major happenings. The Pac-12 Conference also collapsed in the middle of all of this, meaning that the University of Utah will join BYU in the Big 12 beginning next year.

However, other subjects also occupied interest throughout the state.

Snow and the impacts of a record-breaking statewide snowpack, for example, led to four of KSL.com's 12 most-read stories this year. It makes sense because the precipitation led to wide-ranging impacts such as improved water supply and a record ski season, but also more flooding and landslides.

There were also a handful of tragedies that generated both interest and reformation. These include changes to how police handle domestic violence calls and possible forthcoming changes to laws to combat road rage incidents.

These were this year's most-read KSL.com articles.
