I can't really tell you why, but I'm a sucker for a fun road-trip movie. From "National Lampoon's Vacation" to "Planes, Trains and Automobiles," I just have a good time with these movies.

Road-trip movies aren't all winners, but there are some solid ones out there. The different characters they meet, the predicaments in which they find themselves, and the personal journeys the stars take usually have me laughing and invested.

An animated movie about a family of ducks migrating south may not seem like a family road-trip movie, but that's precisely what "Migration" is — and it works.

"Migration" isn't the best animated movie I've seen, but it's a good time; here's why.

It's funny

In the realm of comedy, "Migration" stands out with a delightful mix of humor styles. From clever sight gags that catch you off guard to well-crafted one-liners that leave you chuckling, the movie successfully navigates various comedic territories.

The humor isn't one-dimensional; it weaves through great storytelling, heartfelt moments and unabashed absurdity. It's a commendable blend that caters to diverse tastes in comedy. What truly sets "Migration" apart is its universal appeal – it offers plenty of laughs that will resonate with both the kiddos and their parents.

The cast is great

"Migration" boasts a stellar cast, whose chemistry elevates the movie's comedic charm. Kumail Nanjiani and Danny DeVito deliver standout performances, infusing their characters with wit and personality. Elizabeth Banks and Keegan-Michael Key blend into the ensemble, contributing to the film's comedic success.

The voice cast's talent doesn't merely lend voices to animated characters; it breathes life into each role, helping the jokes land with precision. The collective effort of the cast adds layers of humor, making the characters memorable, which seems tough to do these days.

It's a solid addition to the road-trip genre

While most road-trip movies involve cars, "Migration" takes to the skies with a family of ducks on a migratory journey. The airborne adventure, however unconventional, encapsulates the essence of a great road-trip film.

The narrative unfolds as the ducks encounter a colorful array of characters, navigate perilous situations and embark on individual hero's journeys. The film captures the spirit of exploration, camaraderie and personal growth synonymous with the road-trip genre.

The ducks' flight path becomes a metaphorical highway, with unexpected detours, quirky pit stops and a shared expedition that unites the characters in a feathered family adventure.

Conclusion

While "Migration" may not be flawless, and occasionally follows predictable patterns, it undeniably delivers the charm.

As the holiday break approaches, "Migration" is an excellent choice for families seeking a lighthearted, humorous trip to the theater. Its ability to balance humor for all ages, a talented cast and an unconventional take on the road-trip theme make it a worthwhile dive into the animated world of migrating ducks.

"Migration" is officially rated PG for action/peril and mild rude humor.
