SALT LAKE CITY — A pair of big-time scorers with big wins this week have been chosen as the KSL.com Clean Simple Eats high school hoops players of the week.

The Skyline girls basketball team was one of the first to return to play after the Thanksgiving break, getting its first win of the season over Hunter Monday after three straight losses to open the season.

Senior guard Cami Groberg was instrumental in the victory, putting up 25 points and 11 rebounds. She also had five 3-pointers, including a buzzer-beater at the end of the first half. It was her third time scoring in double figures and her first double-double of the season.

"This is such a team effort," Groberg said of the team's first win. "Every single person contributes every game. It's such a team effort, and I really feel proud of all of us even though the first few games didn't go our way."

When asked what her goals are for the rest of the season, Groberg said, "Hopefully win."

The Eagles have a quick turnaround with another game Thursday at Cottonwood as they try to make it two wins in a row.

On the boys side, Layton senior Mekhi Martin followed up a 32-point debut against Viewmont with 17 points and 11 assists Tuesday against Copper Hills to start the season 2-0.

"You never want to lose a game, (so going) undefeated — it's kind of hard — but that's always the goal," Martin said. "We just want to keep getting better and growing as a team."

Martin said his goal is to reach a region and state championship after Layton was eliminated in the second round of the playoffs last year.

Layton takes on Timpview Thursday in the Corner Canyon Tournament of Champions at Corner Canyon High.
