SALT LAKE CITY — An arrest warrant has been issued for a Salt Lake City man who allegedly fled to Arizona after shooting another man here.

Jeremy Cruz Castillo, 21, was charged Thursday in 3rd District Court with three counts of shooting at a person, a second-degree felony, aggravated assault and three more counts of shooting in the direction of a person, third-degree felonies.

On Aug. 22, Salt Lake City police responded to a shooting in the area of 900 West and 1000 North. Officers found a man who had been shot three times, including once in each leg, according to charging documents. Detectives recovered a total of six shell casings at the scene.

The victim told police he had eaten at a restaurant in the area earlier in the day, and then returned because he lost his wallet. The restaurant was closed and the man was talking to a waitress near the front door when Castillo and four other men walked by, the charges state.

"She doesn't want to talk to you," the men said, prompting the victim to respond and an argument ensued, according to the charges.

The victim left, but later returned to the area to again look for his wallet in the parking lot. Castillo and others were still nearby and their argument with the victim resumed, the charges state.

"Castillo then drew a gun from his pants, hit (the victim) in the face, and started shooting toward (him), which struck him three times," according to the charges.

On Sept. 15, after analyzing surveillance videos from nearby businesses and identifying some of the men involved, police questioned one of them, who said that Castillo had fled to Arizona, the charges state.
