SALT LAKE CITY — Four men are facing numerous criminal charges accusing them of holding a woman hostage at gunpoint in retaliation for being robbed by the woman's mother, and then going to another house and briefly holding more people hostage.
Manyal Dak Jock, 32, Davon Hakeem Hinton, 27, Jeremy Jermaine Hunter, 42, and Shawn David Cook, 25, were each charged Thursday in 3rd District Court with six counts of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, and five counts of aggravated robbery, all first-degree felonies. Jock received an additional charge of aggravated assault, a first-degree felony, while Hunter and Cook were each also charged with possession of a gun by a restricted person, a third-degree felony.
On Oct. 26, the four men held a woman at gunpoint in a house near 300 South and 950 West, according to charging documents. The men allegedly claimed that the woman's mother had stolen property from them and they were going to hold her daughter until she returned it.
"Jock, Hunter, and Cook took (the woman) to the back bedroom. Jock told (the woman) that she could not leave until she gets (her mother) on the phone and (her mother) comes to the house. Jock told (the woman), 'We're not playing, yeah, we're not playing that. We are with the business. We are real gang members,' and Jock pointed a gold and silver firearm (at the woman's) head," the charges state.
Hinton then allegedly went into the room and told the others to leave so he could talk to the woman alone.
"Hinton told (the woman) that it was going to 'get ugly' and that he is going to come for her family," the charges state.
Hinton eventually allowed the woman to leave. She went to a house near 1500 West and 500 South. About 30 minutes later, police say Jock, Hunter, Cook and Hinton — all armed with handguns — arrived at that residence. The five occupants of the home were ordered to put their phones on a table and empty their pockets. The men then took wallets, cash and other undisclosed items and left about 10 minutes later, according to the charges.
Police were able to track down the men over the next few days and arrest them.
