SANDY — The Utah Transit Authority announced Thursday the identity of a Sandy woman who was hit and killed by a TRAX train on Monday.

Janet Nilsson, 66, was crossing at 9000 South in a motorized wheelchair about 12:37 p.m. when a "decelerating" northbound Blue Line train coming to the station struck and killed her, UTA spokesman Carl Arky said.

UTA police responded to the scene, but the investigation is ongoing.

Traffic on 9000 South was stopped in both directions for several hours because the train was blocking the intersection, Arky said.
