SALT LAKE CITY — Check back for the latest scores from all the Week 8 high school football games across the state.

KSL.com Sports' Game of the Week: Brighton at Alta

Why did we choose this game?

Preseason expectations don't always go as planned. Alta opened up the season at No. 13 in the preseason KSL.com Top 20+1 rankings, with eight returning starters on offense and seven more on defense. The Hawks opened up the season 3-0 and looked every bit the team worthy of a top ranking.

The last four weeks have been a mixed bag, with the Hawks dropping three of their last four. There's talent at Alta, but the team needs to find some of that early-season magic at home this week to get back in the win column.

The test won't get any easier Friday night, though, as Region 6 favorite Brighton comes to town. The Bengals boast a 4-0 record in region play and only one loss on the season — a Week 2 loss to a good Syracuse team. A win Friday night all but secures a Region 6 title for Brighton.

But games aren't determined by prior records alone; the two teams matchup well. Brighton averages 30.9 points per game, but Alta averages 31.1 points per game. On defense, Alta allows 19.7 points per game, while Brighton gives up less at 14.9 points per game.

Region play is where Brighton shines. The Bengals have only allowed 11.5 points per game, while the Hawks have given up 28.0 points per game.
