AMERICAN FORK — American Fork used a strong second quarter to take down Pleasant Grove with ease in a 31-10 win Friday night.

Following its first loss of the season to Lone Peak last week, American Fork bounced back even stronger to hand Pleasant Grove its first loss on a previously perfect season.

A rocky first quarter for the Cavemen gave the Vikings an opportunity to take the lead early on. The Cavemen defense remained firm through the first few drives of the game, and stopped Pleasant Grove on the 1-yard line to force an 18-yard field goal.

American Fork's Jacob Eardley got the momentum going on a 12-yard rushing touchdown for the Cavemen's first points of the night on the ensuing possession. But Pleasant Grove erupted in its next drive with a 60-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Carson Rasmussen to take an early 10-7 lead.

The second quarter served the Cavemen well on offense, though. American Fork scored two touchdowns — quarterback Dylan Story connected with Jett Nelson on a 45-yard touchdown pass and then a 21-yard touchdown pass to Davis Andrews — to reclaim and build upon its lead, but it also set the groundwork to claim a victory over the Vikings.

Turnovers became the theme for the third quarter as both teams had two turnovers apiece. But American Fork bounced back in the fourth quarter and scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown to take a 28-10 lead before finishing the night with a 41-yard made field goal.

With only two more games left in the regular season, American Fork faces Westlake next week in Saratoga Springs, and Pleasant Grove will take on Region 3 leaders Skyridge in Lehi.
