OREM — Coming off a win on the road, Utah Valley women's volleyball struggled to keep up with Stephen F. Austin and lost in a 3-0 sweep Thursday night.
The Wolverines kept each set close and never strayed too far off from Stephen F. Austin, but the Ladyjacks ultimately closed out each set to win the match 25-18, 25-21, 25-20.
Despite the unfortunate outcome for the home team, Utah Valley had some shining moments throughout the match. Tori Ellis lead the team with eight kills and Evalyn Chism added 13 assists.
Utah Valley managed to take the lead early in all three sets and made the Ladyjacks work for the win.
Ladyjacks' middle blocker Izabella Ortiz had an impressive game, finishing with 12 kills for the night while hitting .611. She was followed by Camryn Hill and Ariana Pagan, both of which had nine kills apiece.
During the first set, Stephen F. Austin went on a 6-0 scoring run and secured the set with a kill by Hill to take a 25-18 win. The second set was also closed out by Hill with an ace for the match point.
The Ladyjacks ran away with the final set after a 6-point lead on Utah Valley, but the Wolverines attempted a comeback with a 3-point scoring run. But Utah Valley's efforts were a little too late, and the match concluded with an ace by Ladyjacks' Jayden Flynn.
Conference play continues for the Wolverines Saturday as Utah Valley welcomes UT Arlington to Orem.
