SALT LAKE CITY — Check back for the latest scores from all the Week 5 high school football games across the state.
KSL.com Sports' Game of the Week: Desert Hills at Crimson Cliffs
Why did we choose this game?
Crimson Cliffs has had quite the season already to take an early lead in the Region 9 standings. With a win over 5A Springville and a 3-point loss to 6A Bingham, Crimson Cliffs can go toe-to-toe with the best in the state, which is why they're ranked No. 10 in the KSL.com Top 20+1.
Mustangs quarterback Steele Barben has thrown 11 touchdowns and has completed 71% of his passes, primarily to receivers Malakai Alofipo and Tyler West. Crimson Cliffs averages 34.3 points per game, while holding opponents to 13.8 points.
All of that to see, Friday night's game will be a tall task for a Desert Hills team that is 2-2 on the season. But don't let those two losses fool you, since they've come to No. 9 Brighton (34-14) and No. 4 Lehi (31-14) in the first two weeks of the season. Since those two first games, the Thunder have averaged 43 points per game and will be a tougher opponent than their record reflects.
While it's still early in the season, the winner of Friday night's game will take a commanding lead in the Region 9 title race.
