SALT LAKE CITY — The owner of a Salt Lake convenience store and his wife are facing criminal charges accusing them of operating gambling machines.

Tyler Miller, 25, of Tooele, and Jazmine Nazarene Sosa, 28, of Millcreek, were charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with providing a form of internet or online gambling, a third-degree felony; and gambling promotion, a class A misdemeanor. Miller was also charged with four counts of possessing a gambling device, a class A misdemeanor, while Sosa received an additional charge of drug possession with intent to distribute, a third-degree felony.

The investigation began Oct. 27 when an undercover Salt Lake police officer went to Miller's convenience store, 1133 S. Glendale Drive, where "she was welcomed in by Jazmine Sosa who took her into a separate area of the business where four separate gaming machines were located," according to charging documents.

On Nov. 2, police returned to the store with a SWAT team to serve a search warrant. Investigators seized cash ledger sheets, payout documents, a gun, heroin, marijuana and four gaming machines, the charges state.
