LOGAN — A Logan man has been charged with threat of terrorism after police say he threatened to "kill a bunch of people and himself" after being told he couldn't get more money for food stamps.
Police say Derrick Russell Andersen, 58, called the Division of Workforce Services on Aug. 23 to request additional money for food stamps. The division said that when it denied his request, he told them that "if they did not increase his payments he was going to kill a bunch of people and himself," a police booking affidavit states.
When the Cache County Sheriff's Office contacted Andersen, he said he "would have nothing left to lose" and would "go out in a blaze of glory," the affidavit alleges. He also allegedly told police he had military experience and explosives training.
Andersen was charged with threat of terrorism with the use of a weapon and hoax of mass destruction, a second-degree felony. He was booked into the Cache County Jail and his bail was set at $10,000.
