ARKANSAS — I've always enjoyed the pitter-patter of a hailstorm. Sure, I've heard stories about the oversized hailstones that fall elsewhere. And there have been occasional storms here in Utah that have brought ice big enough to damage cars and property.
But all I ever saw were pea-sized hailstones that just bounced around on the ground harmlessly. You might get hit right on the head by one and it would be more amusing than painful.
However, for the residents of Hot Springs, Arkansas, hailstorms are something to be feared. Check out this video:
The size of those hailstones is downright shocking to me. Some of them look like they're as big as baseballs.
"We experienced a major hailstorm," explains the user who posted the video on YouTube. "I caught a portion of it on video in our backyard. It caused extensive damage to our home and property."
No joke! Chunks of ice that size, hurtling down from the sky, can probably dent or punch a hole in just about anything you might own.
So if you ever decide to visit Hot Springs, keep your head on a swivel. You definitely don't want to be caught strolling around in the open when the ice starts falling again.
